Mitchell's
Villa On The Bay
Islamorada, FL
http://flkeys-net.com/keysvilla
LOCATION:
Islamorada Mile marker 82.2 Upper Matecumbe Key. Light pole 652-B on the
Bayside. One hour fifteen minutes from Miami. The "Mitchell's Sunset Bay" sign at Lightpole 652-A to the north, on the highway, is our home.
The Villa was part of a resort complex of several buildings that were sold to private owners years ago. The Villa is a separate house and has been completely redone inside and out. It is located about 1OO feet from the water, and the bay can be seen out of the living room and enclosed dining room.
The property is lovely and contains very rare trees and plants planted 50 years ago by a well-known horticulturist and local conservationist, Jerry Ellis. One of the largest mahogany trees in south Florida is right outside our dining porch. The property extends from US-1 to the bay, and has a lovely, protected, free marina. The marina has recently been completely redone allowing all boaters the ultimate in accommodations - dock lights, cushioned pilings, shore power, water outlets, and a new lighthouse to light the way after dark. There is a sandy swimming area and a ramp for smaller boats (regular 8' or less wide trailers). Larger boats can be launched at several local ramps. Rental boats can be delivered to the marina, and charter and party boats are available nearby.
FISHING:
Easy, deep-water access to ocean and bay. Five minutes or less to Whale Harbor bridge and channel. Patch reefs, deep jigging, dolphin and sailfish are just ahead. The best bone fishing in the world is in all directions bayside and along the Keys Oceanside. Shell Key is 4 minutes away, and bonefish of 12 pounds and up are caught there on a regular basis. Snapper and grouper fishing are super after 9 p.m. off the jetty that forms our marina. A fish-cleaning table and marina shower are welcome after diving or fishing.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
The Villa is composed of a bedroom and living room separated by a good-size bath and kitchen with an enclosed dinning room. The bedroom contains a king size bed and the living room contains a new leather queen size sleeper sofa. (sleeps 4 adults cot available for child). The refrigerator is new, as are the air-conditioner/heater units in each room. Please restrict smoking to outside as we wish to keep the Villa as pleasant smelling as possible for others.
Windows cover three of the four major walls and when the weather is warm the open windows covered by vertical louver drapes are extremely pleasant. -Overhead fans in each room enable every day to be wonderfully comfortable when air conditioning is not preferred.
The kitchen is fully set-up and includes a dishwasher, coffee maker, icemaker and all small appliances. Off the kitchen is an enclosed Florida room with a view of the water for dining. We provide pillows, sheets, towels and blankets. We ask that they be left clean and folded. A washer and dryer are located in the Villa. There is a color television, VCR, cable, phone and an answer machine.
FRIENDLY CRITTERS:
There are several acquaintances you’ll make when you stay at the Villa. A local Osprey we call Ozzie sits atop the trees in the local area and calls in the early evening. Our marina octopus will love your shrimp bag if you leave it overnight. He will tug on it in the morning when you are getting ready to go fishing. He also has climbed on the dock looking for a handout. If you see him, be gentle and he will take the shrimp right out of your hand. Four or five local iguanas live on or near the property.
Pete, the great white heron, is ever present, especially when you return with your catch. Watch your filets carefully, as he has lightning speed if you are diverted. He is grateful for the fish heads and cuttings. Pelicans also flock in when you begin cleaning fish as if on call. The moment you turn on the hose to clean the table when you are through, they take off. The free meal is over.
COST:
We charge $1,095 per week plus tax. All monies are due two weeks prior
to occupancy and are non-refundable. A 25% deposit is required to hold
your reservation and is non-refundable within 60 days.
There is a refundable $100 damage/clean up deposit. Directions for opening and closing and cleanup of the Villa will be sent to you on confirmation of your reservation. Seventy dollars of the deposit will be deducted if you desire us to do the cleanup. Basically, we ask the bathroom be scrubbed, all linens and towels clean and folded, all surfaces clean, stove/oven left clean, place swept, all trash removed and no food left. The refrigerator must be left clean and running whether you decide to clean the Villa or not. We retain the right to use our discretion on the $100 charge and will refund upon our inspection.
The Villa is a very special place. The privacy is wonderful, the accommodations new and clean, the property unique and the access to the best fishing in the Keys indisputable. We hope you, too, find it special and relaxing. We guarantee the most gorgeous sunsets you’ve ever seen!
